Gold Beach Oregon | Keeping it Clean
Oregon’s South Coast is a lush and pristine nature-lover’s wonderland. We have it all: forests, rivers, mountains, oceans, beaches, and abundant wildlife of all kinds thanks to our moderate climate. If you’d like to buffer yourself from the hectic complications of modern life, yet still have access to essential amenities, consider purchasing real estate in Gold Beach. It’s a great escape—full or part-time.
Keeping our world-class natural environment clean sometimes takes hard work.
Here’s two ways that our community tackles the situation.
- The Trash Dogs
a locally and nationally recognized group of volunteers, regularly scours Curry County’s national wilderness for garbage. Their mantra: Cleaning up the Forest, One Big Pile at a Time.
The 5-year-old, non-profit group has a least 70 volunteers now who’ve conducted over 60+ trash pick-up events and has recovered and disposed of 150-plus tons of trash, including larger items such as TV’s, refrigerators, and even a Chevy Lumina.
The area’s geography and Siskiyou wilderness contains many steep slopes and ravines, and this is where some dumpers choose to illegally toss their debris. The Trash Dogs remain undaunted, hauling garbage up 40-foot slopes by means of ropes and pulleys.
In July of 2008, The Trash Dogs were one of only 15 recipients nation-wide to receive a Take Pride In America National Award. To read more about it click here:

Recently, the Trash Dogs received a cash award of $17,325 from the Resource Advisory Committee of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. RAC’s mission is to improve the cooperative relationships between people who use and care for federal lands, and the agencies who manage them. Read the whole story here:

Not to be outdone, Gold Beach Promotions has launched
- Beach Bag Program
a win-win campaign to keep our beaches clean. Both visitors and locals, of all ages, can participate by checking out a ‘Beach Bag” at the Gold Beach Visitor Center. Fill it up with any trash you find while beachcombing. Bring it back to the dumpster at GBVC and enter to win a restaurant meal gift certificate.
